I just happened upon a give away by Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe. Be sure to drop by Nancy's blog to enter for a chance to win a new chart and fabric! I love her giveaways and hope I can win this one :)
Last weekend we went up to North Carolina to visit my mom and aunt. I love get away and just relax. Been so hectic lately at work and this is exactly what was needed. I sat most of the morning out on her deck trying to photograph the hummingbirds - they didn't care if you were out there with them. They are just so cute! Was a great weekend and escape from the terribly hot weather we had been having. It's finally just starting to cool down a little bit.
Today is a lovely rainy day. I love days like this because I can sit and stitch for hours if I want. Rainy days make me sleepy though. I may have to sit this afternoon and watch a couple of episodes of The Walking Dead. I've been watching past seasons in anticipation of the new episodes coming next month. Can't wait!
As usual I'm late again for the WIPocalypse! I need to write down these dates! I didn't work on many different ones this time. I'm working on one that is a mystery sampler that I can't post pictures of until it is finished. But I did manage to get a finish!
Day 1 for Santa's 12 Days of Christmas is finished :) Just love having a completed project. Now 11 more to go!
I also stitched over the past week on Fredrick and managed to finish another book. I can feel I'm getting closer to the finish line.
When I'm not stitching I've been bobbinating and placing all my threads in my new carrier. I can tell this is going to work out the best for me. I didn't want to sort out threads per project for the Ultimate Crazy January Challenge so I'm doing this instead and will just pull colors as the project calls for from here:
It is double sided which I'm only about 1/3 done placing my threads in this and looks like it will hold my entire collection. I do have extras of some of these and am keeping them in the floss bags but hopefully I will go down from 4 shoe boxes to 1.
That is all I have for the update on my cross stitch projects until next time!
It's a late post for TUSAL this month. Are you wondering what this is about? You save all of your ORT's (old ratty tails) in a jar and take a photo each month for a Totally Useless Stitch A Long. This is hosted by It's Daffycat. I've started on the Somethings Wicked Mystery Stitch A Long. I can't show a photo of it but you can see a snapshot of it here on Sam Sarah's webpage. This is the first mystery stitch a long I've ever done and it's so much fun! Even my hubby thought that was a neat concept :)
I want to take a minute to say to Debbie's family how sorry I am for thier loss. Debbie had a heart attack several days ago and past away yesterday. She was such a special lady and so sweet. Such an inspiration to me to get back to this wonderful craft. I'm going to miss her greatly even though I didn't know her for very long. I know she is still stitching in heaven and looking down on our projects. Debbie thanks for all your encouragement.
This morning I was cleaning around the house. Dusting here, dusting there, putting away little things that I came upon into their little spots where they belong. I came across some things that were given to me this past Christmas. A trollbead, tea pot and a lovely crystal pitcher. Little did I know back then would things start taking on a new meaning to me now. I see things in such a different light. Someone saw these little things and thought I would love them and give them a wonderful home. They were so right. As I was putting away things and clearing a chair of clutter I came across a package that was from a cross stitch store that had been mailed back in January. I was wondering what it possibly could be. I didn't remember not receiving anything but January and February were such a blur to me anything was possible really. To my surprise it was a cross stitch pattern that I had found and fell in love with. It is me written all over it! So cute and can't wait until I can start it.
I was thinking about the up coming holidays and just can't wait. I absolutely love Halloween and then comes Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now if the heat would just go away I'm missing those nice cool fall temps and the changing leaves. It all starts with the kidos going back to school, I get so excited because I know the cooler temps are just around the corner now. Anna is getting use to the "big" school and adjusting to life as a 6th grader. She now has no problem getting her locker open and tells me "It's easy mom!" She has lots of homework. I help her with math when I get home from work each night. I'm enjoying spending that time with her going over how to work the problems. Good quality time and I'm loving it!
I actually took Thursday, Friday and Monday off. So glad I don't have to go to work on Monday! I started to knit a swatch for Anna's sweater and just need to wash and block it. I'm really hoping that it will be a fast knit for me. I plan to work on it nights while watching TV. I just love to sit down in front of the tube and knit along on something. So relaxing.
While off on Friday I treated myself to the book store and got Ina Garten's cookbook family style. The recipes look so good and for once reasonable for the average household. I hate getting a cookbook and the recipes are either too cumbersome or require 4 or 5 odd ingredients that you know you will never find in the grocery store. I've made my list for the store and am planning to try the spaghetti and meatballs. Yum. I will let you know what I think. I also wanted to get a good book to read. I remembered not too long ago watching the movie "Angels & Demons" and since I've never read any of Dan Brown's books I thought I would start with the first one that he writes and introduces Professor Langdon. I was thinking it would have been the Divinci Code but it actually is Angels & Demons. I'm not a big reader of books and have a hard time getting into them but I'm hoping since I've seen the movie and like those I will like reading them. I have such a hard time sitting still for any length of time and that doesn't help.
Well I need to get back to cleaning this house so that I can enjoy the rest of my time off. Mustard of course is helping me!
I completely missed July's WIP update but here is August's! You can find out all about WIPocalypse over on Measi's blog. I've been working on a stitching rotation during each week to try and see if that would make a difference for me. I believe I did get more done this time around but by the end I just worked on the one's I wanted to. At times I even felt like there were days that I probably would have worked on one of the others but since it wasn't "it's day" I ended up not working on either. I think I do better with stitching what strikes me in the mood.
Below are my WIP's and I'm pretty happy with all of them!
Black Widow's Bed & Breakfast
Santa's 12 Days of Christmas
There you have it. I lost my mojo for about a week & a half. I still have not quite recovered but I'm hoping working on some of the others will help jump start me back into the game.
Thanks for dropping by and having a look! It's wonderful to sit down with a cup of tea and talk with friends :)
I don't know what's gotten into me but I just want to be lazy all this week. I would love to just putter all day doing nothing but sitting on the couch eatting my oatmeal bar treats and snuggle up to my blanket. This feeling is not only affecting my not wanting to do anything around the house but at the office too. I never get this way and need to snap out of it! Somebody ... quick - pinch me....
Another school year started this week. I can't believe my Anna is going into the 6th grade already. We spent all weekend shopping for clothes and supplies. Steve and I did something different this year and ordered school supplies online through Amazon. It was so much better than fighting at the store! That is the way to go. No crowds, no trying to find what you need and no losing your sanity! I had the thought of Steve and I walking Anna to school each day. We need to lose some weight and I think that will be a great start. We are just around the corner from her school and there isn't a bus for the middle schoolers and here in the neighborhood since we are so close they figure most are walking. It's funny what the kids are so worried about this year. It isn't that they have more classes and have to go room to room based on their schedule but whether they can get their locker open. I remember those days starting a new year of school but I don't remember worrying about the locker. I don't even remember if I had a locker for middle school. I don't think I did.
Now that school is starting back I really want to work around my house and get it back in order again. I just have this overwelming feeling of chaos all around me for some reason. I don't normally get this way but I don't even know where to begin! I have things that I would like to get done but just no ambision to do them. I did manage to start back on my ripple blanket that I've been working on forever. I'm determined to get it finished for this winter since I really need something warm at work and this would help brighten my drab office up. There is something about how soothing it is to work on it in front of the TV. I really need to get a TV in my craftroom. I think that is why I don't want to work on anything up here is it is just too darn quiet.
I spent last week down in Cocoa Beach FL with my family. It was so nice to get away for the week and just unwind. I don't normally wait until July to take my vacation but with all the doctor appointments and weeks I didn't feel good after the chemo I treated us to a nice vacation after my last treatment. We went to Orlando for a day and spent the whole day at Universal. The main attraction for us of course was the Harry Potter worlds there. Let me tell you, it is like stepping foot into that wonderful world! We had the best time. Anna got on the Harry Potter ride at Hogsmeade and we both loved it but it was her first real rollercoaster so she wasn't keen on going on any others like it. We also waited to get into the wand makers shop and picked out or I should say the wand picked Anna out! She absolutely loves her new wand and wants to get a costume for Halloween this year. So I guess I know what to look for her this year!
We also went out to the Kennedy Space Center and walked around. I wanted to go on a then and now tour but they were all sold out. Too bad I will know for next time to order tickets online and book what I want. We still really enjoyed seeing everything. Even got to meet a real astronaut! Anna thought that was the best thing since sliced bread! She was so cute and just in awe the whole time standing by him while we had a photo taken. There is something so magical about seeing everything through your childs eye. I wonder sometimes what goes through her mind and wish I too was at that age again.
During the down times I worked a lot on Day 1 of 12 Days of Santa cross stitch and got a lot accomplished on it. Almost finished, only a few pears, the partiridge and pot then I can backstitch it.
I finally took my last chemo treatment! I'm so happy and thankful it's over. I never thought I would be so excited to ring a bell but that was special! Sorry I've been missing but just not feeling well over the last week so I've missed out on lots of posts over what I've been working on. I'll try and catch up on some of them. I have lots to show :)
I did manage to get a couple more squares cut out for my patchwork quilt I'm making. I can't wait to get this quilt put together. I have so many plans for next year one being to sell our current house and build a qaint little farm house. This quilt will go on our master bed along with this gorgeous patchwork pillow! I bought this beautiful patchwork pillow cover over at Dandelion Dream Co's Etsy shop and just need to get me a nice pillow to go in it! You need to check Andrea's shop out because she has the most colorful patchwork pieces and everytime I visit her shop I keep seeing something else I want! The colors she uses is just bright, happy and cheerful, the kind that makes my heart sing :)
Well that is all I have to share today but I will be back this week with more crafty goodies! I know it isn't much but hopefully this picture of Frannie will hold you over until I can post more :)
Ta Ta til then
This is a post for the WIPocalypse hosted by Measi Musings. You take all of your projects you have started and you try to finish them by the end of the year. Of course most of mine just keep going over to the next year.
I did get one finished and will be moving it to a new 2014 Finishes page! That is one off and I need to add two other projects I just started.
Here is the completed Holiday Workshop stocking:
Next is the Stitcher's Studio destined to be mine:
These will be my new adds to the list of projects on my WIPocalypse page. Sorry to say Holiday Workshop took up all of my time lately to get it finished and I didn't work on any other projects!
I'm thinking of doing a rotation so I can get others in each week. I'm going to start this Saturday and here is the new rotation for now:
Saturday - Stitchers Studio & Fredrick
Sunday - Day 1 Santa's 12 Days of Christmas & Widow Black B&B
Monday - Molly the Mess Maker
Tuesday - Hummingbird Art
Wednesday - Log Cabin Knitted Blanket (Knit Nite with the gals!)
Thursday - Memory Lane
Friday - Garden Roll
I'm going to see how this goes and maybe work the rotation for two weeks and the create a new one. Hope this helps keep me more focused!
